Being able to use stops and effort as a motivational factor to take pride in. ![]() He'll also have moments defensively where he uses his overwhelming athletic presence to hound offensive players, even appearing to take great joy and pride in his performance on that end of the floor. While he's not consistent in those areas yet, additional motivation on that end of the floor could see him make substantial year-to-year improvements as a defender. However, it does appear the acquisition of Patrick Beverley has injected a bit more fight in the second-year player, when he tries to maneuver screens and close-outs. There aren't a lot of 20-year-old polished players who become major defensive contributors in their first few seasons, so expecting this of Edwards is a bit optimistic. Some of it is fatigue for handling too much of the offensive load, and sometimes it's just inexperience, which is of course perfectly normal. Defense and all-around gameĪs with the vast majority of MVPs winners in the past, being able to flick a switch and become a lock-down defender is usually a skill most of them have.Įdwards runs hot and cold defensively. Will Edwards ever become a 40% from range on high volume? It's not impossible, but it shouldn't be an outright requirement, as long as his shots are taken at the appropriate time and within the confines of the offense. ![]() Moving forward, it's all about fine-tuning, identifying the right shots, and feeling the moment. This is about as good a foundation as the Wolves could ask for. Edwards is attempting 8.8 nightly triples, hitting a healthy 37.6% of them. This isn't to suggest he'll become the new Zion Williamson, but by being more selective and working on how he approaches every shot near the basket, it's fair to note that this is an area he could become utterly dominant in.įinally, there's shooting, and there isn't much to say about it. His 66% shooting efficiency from within three feet is by no means poor - it's actually a fairly strong number for a guard - but when taking into account just how otherworldly he is physically, there's a sense that he can grow in this area. This too can be said of his conversion rate at the rim, which is likely to improve quite drastically as he ages and gains more experience. He's laid out a path of breadcrumbs to follow for later, but nevertheless the results haven't exactly shown themselves yet. It should be noted that Edwards does on occasion slow down to throw off defenses. However, after years with the same pattern, taking a principal stand is simply less recommended than adapting to the realities of how the game is being called. This is where some might note that players shouldn't have to go to such lengths to get calls they deserve anyway, and that's of course a fair point. While the two differ greatly in style and overall athletic prowess, slowing down is a sure-fire way to give game officials a chance to observe the play at a more regular speed. This method has proven extremely effective when used hy Luka Doncic. This makes it even more difficult for referees to observe fouls, as the combination of size, speed and raw athleticism presents a challenge for them to fully gauge.Īs such, Edwards could stand to benefit from improved speed control, by slowing down significantly when he gets within 5-7 feet of the basket. At 6'4 and 225 pounds, Edwards is tremendously muscular, which makes defenders bounce off of him, instead of vice versa. LaVine has spent a not insignificant portion of his time this year barking at referees after years of taking blows to his head, torso and arms, without getting calls.Įdwards too is in a similar boat, although he has an additional component working against him. ![]() Using LaVine as an example once again, being overly athletic can at times make Point A to Point B drives look too easy, and the sheer force of their vertical jumps can throw referees off, and make them miss a hit on the arm or head.

![]() On the AMD side, you need a Black Edition chip, such as the AMD FX-8350 Black Edition. On the Intel side, look out for CPUs with a "K" in the product name, such as the Intel Core i5-4690K. Not all CPUs support multiplier overclocking the vast majority have their multipliers locked. For more on keeping your PC cool (and quiet), be sure to check out our guide.Īside from decent cooling, you also need to make sure you have the right type of CPU and motherboard. It's also worth looking at the overall cooling setup in your PC, and making sure that you have decent fans and good airflow throughout the case. The more efficiently you can move heat away from your CPU, the more stable your overclock will be. While you can achieve small overclocks using stock cooling solutions supplied by the CPU manufacturer, it's far better to go with a large third-party cooling solution from the likes of Noctua or Corsair. Thanks to the extra heat put out by overclocking, you need to make sure you've got adequate cooling in place before attempting it. Get the Right Gear Motherboards like ASUS' Z97-Deluxe are designed for overclocking. Plus, with more VCORE comes more heat, which brings us neatly to what exactly you need in your system before you start overclocking. Bear in mind, though, that there's a cutoff point where too much VCORE actually introduces instability and can damage or shorten the useful life of your CPU. The solution is to manually adjust the CPU core voltage (VCORE) while still keeping the system stable. However, this increase in speed causes the CPU to suck down more power, and if not properly accounted for, this can cause system instability. The preferred method whether you're using an Intel or an AMD CPU is to increase the multiplier until a stable speed is reached. ![]() Increasing the BCLK used to be common practice in the old days of overclocking, but these days, adjustments are limited to just a few MHz, and only with specific motherboards. Therefore, to make the processor run at a higher speed, we need to increase either the base clock or the multiplier. All you do is take that multiplier of 35 and multiply it by the 100MHz of the base clock, which equals 3500MHz, or 3.5GHz. For example, the Intel Core i5-4690K is designed for motherboards that feature a base clock of 100MHz, while the CPU itself has a default multiplier of 35. You calculate it by taking the base clock (BCLK, a signal supplied by the clock generator on the motherboard, or reference clock in AMD systems) and applying a multiplier to it. What we're most interested in when overclocking is the standard clock speed. Both processors also feature a turbo mode, which dynamically increases the clock speed in small bursts, as well as power-saving features that decrease the clock speed when the CPU is idling. For example, Intel's new Core i5-4690K has a standard clock speed of 3.5GHz, while AMD's FX 9590 Black Edition has a standard clock speed of 4.7GHz. While the overall speed of a CPU is based on a number of factors, one of the most important is its clock speed, which tells you how quickly the CPU switches from one cycle of instructions to the next, and is measured in gigahertz (GHz). The Basics Image Credit: /trishamanasanīefore you begin overclocking, it's good to know some of the basic principles behind the process, beginning with how a CPU's speed is calculated. The process of overclocking isn't as complicated as some would have you believe either, and with a bit of computing know-how, and some patience, it's possible to significantly boost your PC's performance with just a few tweaks. While there's an element of risk to the process-you can significantly shorten the life of your components or permanently damage them if something goes awry-if you're sensible, disasters are rare. For the uninitiated, overclocking means taking a piece of hardware-most commonly a CPU or GPU-and running it at a faster speed than the manufacturer intended, giving you the performance of higher-priced models for less cash. But, if you're willing to go the extra mile, the best returns often come from overclocking. Sometimes getting the best bang for your buck with PC components means putting a little extra work in, whether that's shopping around for the best prices online, or researching which CPU or GPU is best suited to the task at hand. However, when I switch to one of the Samsung's, I have to look at the remote and think about what button to push to get the results that I want. One of the pi's uses a Flirc, which is a programmable IR receiver, but the others are native and interface with the pi via the HDMI-CEC interface. I have to use a Flirc with one of those devices, and the mapping isn't the best, but it does work. For the most part, the TV remote works fine, but they're all different. All media devices are connected to different TV's and of course they all have different remotes. To begin, while it has a sunrise alarm, it lacks a sunset feature. We love the simplicity and price of the Philips base model (HF3500/60), but it does feel cheap and lacking in user-friendliness at times. The others can be operated entirely with buttons on the device. Of the Philips products listed above, only one (HF3670/60) is dependent on an app to function. While the Hatch Restore packs a lot of features into an app-powered product, the Philips SmartSleep line scores points for having simpler devices with less app dependence. Thankfully, Hatch can be adjusted so that there is no light being emitted. In many sunrise alarms we have tested, it is impossible to turn off all the lighting on the device. When you wake up in the middle of the night, the last thing you want to do is use an app to turn on a clock display. For a device that sits on your nightstand, it is aggravating to be tied to an app. For example, to turn off all the lights on the Hatch, you need to use the app to dim everything to zero. The big downside, in terms of features, is that Hatch only allows full access with a paid subscription.Īnother disadvantage to the customization is that it causes Hatch Restore to be dependent on the app. Users can change the color of light, steps in their bedtime routine, sounds, and the clock display brightness. Hatch Restore is feature-packed, with a sunrise alarm, sound machine, lamp, traditional alarm clock, and meditation app in one device. Philips SmartSleep products include not only sunrise alarms (which we will cover in this article), but also snoring relief bands, deep sleep headbands, sleep apnea devices, and a “better sleep” program. Writing about Philips SmartSleep products is terribly confusing. And the Philips brand offers good support, reliability, and warranties. However, they have a large number of devices, so there is one to fit every budget. The cheaper products in the lineup tend to be poorly built and lacking in features, while the premium products seem overpriced considering their imperfect design. Philips SmartSleep is not just one device, but rather a whole lineup of sunrise alarms. Hatch Restore comes with a high price tag, but is the most feature-packed and functional wake up light we have tested yet. Both products are significant upgrades from a basic alarm clock, and provide features to make your wake-up routine more enjoyable. Hatch Restore and Philips SmartSleep are two of the most popular sunrise alarms available. ![]() You never unlock new abilities, and your controls never expand beyond those four keys for movement. This way humankind would be carbon neutral and global temperature would stabilise. Since the Earth already reacts strongly to small changes in the amount of CO₂, methane and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, emissions of these gases must be reduced until the whole system is back in balance again. Net zero emission means that all man-made greenhouse gas emissions must be removed from the atmosphere through reduction measures, thus reducing the Earth’s net climate balance, after removal via natural and artificial sink, (see: What are negative emissions?), to zero. This objective has been ratified by Switzerland, the EU and many other countries, under the Paris Agreement. The report also states that any scenario that does not involve a reduction to zero will not stop climate change. The IPCC demonstrates in its most recent report of 2018 that net emissions must be reduced to zero in order to stabilize global temperatures.
